Problems

Problems with various organic waste streams

1. WASTE: A WORLD WIDE PROBLEM
Over 2 Billion tons of waste is buried annually worldwide. The pollutants in household waste alone contaminate the water supply all living creatures drink and the air we breathe.

2. PLANETARY CONCERNS
Landfills are not sustainable waste solutions and are heavy polluters of the planet. They may leak solid and liquid contaminants in the aquifers, and decaying of the organic waste they contain is a major cause of methane emission. The emission of methane (CH4) is harmful to life and is 20 times more damaging than carbon dioxide (CO2). Although modern technologies reduce many air pollutants once associated with the process, incineration of plastics and other materials still creates emissions that can contain toxins such as mercury, dioxins, and furans.

3. CHANGING CLIMATE
Human activity has produced large amounts of CO2, which is the recognized primary cause of global warming. This CO2 also causes damage to our oceans, along with plastics that destroy sea life.

4. PLASTICS
Plastics are a significant waste stream that is creating worldwide concern. In 2015, worldwide primary plastics production was 407 million tons, of which over 300 million tons ended up as waste. Now that most emerging countries are no longer accepting this waste, it is piling up and waiting for an acceptable treatment solution. A reasonable estimate is more than 5 billion tons of accumulated plastic waste exists throughout the world, on the ground, and in the oceans. It even found its way into our own body, where microplastics traces can now be found.

5. INDUSTRIAL IMPACT
Human activity still requires an increasing amount of energy, while the use of fossil fuels is more and more questioned. Solar and Wind energy are a partial answer to that question. However, a predictable local, grid-compliant renewable source of energy is also a natural answer to this issue to complete clean energy sources need, for power production but also for clean fuels production as well.

6. UNSTABLE ENERGY MARKET
Fuel logistics itself is a heavy polluter, a potential danger and fossil fuels prices are unstable. Solar and wind are not a predictable, reliable source of energy. Converting waste into clean energy or hydrogen gas, a clean fuel for mobility applictions takes place 24 hours per day.
